The final structure and shape of ILLUME was possible to produce with a modern day state-of-the-art 3D printer which uses plastic as a medium. ILLUMES original concept has translucent concrete walls that are well mimicked by the delicately thin plastic. Doing light studies were an important component of this project since the original site received an average of only 3 hours of natural sunlight a day. The 2mm thick 3D Printed walls were perfect to perform these light studies.
